      About the Recipe Scaler

Enter your ingredients, set how many servings the recipe makes and how many you want, and every quantity is recalculated on the spot. The scale factor is simply new servings ÷ original servings.

Scaling works best for ingredient amounts. Cooking times, pan sizes and strong seasonings such as salt and spices do not always scale in a straight line, so taste and adjust when you make a big change.

      Frequently asked questions

How do I halve or double a recipe?

Set the original servings, then enter the new number. Halving is a scale factor of 0.5; doubling is 2. Each ingredient updates automatically.

Do cooking times change when I scale a recipe?

Not proportionally. A bigger batch in a bigger pan usually needs somewhat more time, a smaller one less. Go by doneness cues as well as the clock.

How do I scale a recipe for a different number of people?

Divide the number of people you are cooking for by the servings the recipe lists to get the factor, then multiply every ingredient by it — or let the scaler do it.
