About the Roman Numeral Translator
Type a number and see its Roman numeral, or type or build a numeral with the I, V, X, L, C, D and M buttons and see the number — both sides update live. It handles numbers from 1 to 3,999 using standard subtractive notation (IV, IX, XL, XC, CD, CM).
The seven symbols are I = 1, V = 5, X = 10, L = 50, C = 100, D = 500 and M = 1,000. A smaller symbol before a larger one is subtracted, so IV is 4 and IX is 9.
Frequently asked questions
How do you write 2025 in Roman numerals?
2025 is MMXXV: MM (2,000) + XX (20) + V (5).
What is the largest Roman numeral this converter supports?
3,999, written MMMCMXCIX. Standard Roman numerals have no symbol for zero and no simple way to write 4,000 and above.
Why is 4 written IV and not IIII?
Standard notation uses subtraction — I placed before V — to avoid repeating a symbol four times. IIII does appear on some clock faces as a tradition.
