About the IP Address Detector

This page shows the public IP address your connection appears to have on the internet, the browser and operating system you are using, and an approximate location based on that IP.

The location comes from an IP-to-location database, so it is typically accurate to the city or region at best — it points to your internet provider's network, not your street. If you use a VPN or proxy, you will see that service's address and location instead of your own.

Frequently asked questions

What is my IP address?

It is displayed at the top of this page. It is the public address that websites see when your device connects to them.

Why is the location wrong?

IP location is an estimate based on where your internet provider registers its addresses, so it can be off by a city or more. VPNs and mobile networks make it less accurate still.

What is the difference between a public and a private IP address?

A public IP is the address the wider internet sees, usually shared by everything on your home network. Private addresses, such as 192.168.x.x, are used inside your own network and cannot be seen from outside.
