CHRONOVENOM

Posted September 22, 2026 · Dave

They didn't build Chronovenom. They hunted it into existence.

Deep in the Cogspire wastes, where the ground itself ticks like a dying watch, there's a phenomenon the old engineers called a Timequake — a rupture where seconds pool and thicken like tar, powerful enough to rust a man to bone in an instant or freeze him mid-blink for a hundred years. Nobody survived getting close to one. Nobody except a single expedition, and only because they brought a serpent-shaped drone rigged to eat the quake instead of resisting it.

The drone went in empty. It came out as Chronovenom — hood blooming with stolen gearwork, spine threaded with copper that hadn't existed an hour before, eyes burning the exact red of the rupture that made it. It had absorbed the Timequake. Not survived it — become it.

Ever since, Chronovenom doesn't just move through time normally. Witnesses report it arriving at a place before the danger that summoned it even happens, coiling in wait like it already knows how the fight ends. Soldiers who've fought beside it swear their wounds heal a little too fast when it's near. Enemies who've fought against it say their weapons rust mid-swing, years of wear happening in a single second.

Nobody controls it. Nobody trained it. It simply decided, somewhere in that rupture, that it existed to keep moving forward — and it drags a little piece of broken time along with it wherever it goes. The wasteland has a saying now: if the ground starts ticking and you see brass scales in the dust, you're either about to be saved, or you already ran out of time to matter.
